Rohingyas in many villages under the Kyauktaw township have fled their homes after the flood situation worsened on Tuesday.
Most Rohingya villages in the area are in the midst of Rakhine settlements and in normal circumstances, there is a strict restriction on movement. However as houses go underwater in many areas, Rohingyas have disregarded the restrictions and fled their respective zones.
Many are fearful of the consequences of moving into Rakhine settlements. According to Nur Salam of Zailla fara, “We all have our children with us. So we are very cautious about a Rakhine attack.”
Many Rohingyas agree saying they are spending sleepless nights fearing an attack by Rakhine nationalists on their children.
However some sources say the Rakhine villages seem to be deserted as they have fled the floodwaters beforehand.
