A human trafficking victim has told his relatives by phone that their boat and three others have been floating off the coast of Thailand since the last four days and have been unable to land. They had not eaten anything since Wednesday as all supplies have ended.
According to his account, it seems that the human traffickers planned to land in southern Thailand and go through the usual ransom process. But since Friday following the discovery of the mass graves, Thailand has increased vigilance on the borders. Now the traffickers are contacting families of the victims in the Bangladesh refugee camps from the sea.
There was also a fifth ship with them but it has drifted somewhere else and cannot be located.
The victim says that the food shortages are hitting them especially hard.
