BGP has stepped up pressure on Rohingya shopkeepers coming to Maungdaw town for commercial activities.
Many shopkeepers in the village regions come to Maungdaw town for purchasing their products. As these shopkeepers have cash on them, they have been targeted by BGP.
The visitors are detained in the multiple checkpoints around the city and often implicated with a Bangladesh SIM card. It is then alleged they have come to Maungdaw town to contact Bangladesh based terrorists.
The usual rate per person is 6000 to 7000 kyats. Victims say this has become like a tax system and they view this as a part of their business expenditure.
Some of the victims have also been slapped by the BGP.
