Rohingya organisations condemn religious persecution in neighbouring Chin state
Rohingya organisations have condemned the Chin State government decision to destroy a 54 foot-high cross symbol.
The statement said that like Rohingya Muslims, Chin Christians have also faced religious persecution. The statement also said that in spite of any oppression, Rohingya Muslims will stand by Christians and other oppressed people in this ethnically and religiously diverse country.
Both Muslims and Christians face severe restrictions to build places of worship and practise their religion by a government that increasingly relies on a militant version of Buddhism to entrench their rule.
Village elder Tial Cem faces up to two years imprisonment for what the government says is illegal construction of the holy symbol.
Burmese Rohingya Community in Denmark, Burmese Rohingya Community in Netherlands, Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK, Bradford Rohingya Community in UK ,Rohingya Community in Germany, Rohingya Community in Switzerland, Rohingya Organisation Norway, Rohingya Community in Sweden and Rohingya Community in Finland signed the statement.
