Police and BGP are throwing stones at Rohingya Muslims as they pray in their camps in Taimbru. The camp used to hold boatpeople from the first rescued ship is now inhabited only by Rohingya Muslims.
These incidents are taking place regularly especially during the Isha (night) prayers in the last three days. All the Bangladeshis were all taken out of the camps by their authorities on Monday leaving only the Rohingyas behind.
Authorities are also pressing charges against 20 out of the 50 Rohingya migrants.
When this ship with ‘208’ migrants was rescued in May, the government claimed that all aboard were Bangladeshis. Later a Reuters investigation confirmed that at least 8 of them were Rohingyas. The Burmese government, eager to prove the righteousness of their claim alleged these 8 were human traffickers and pressed charges against them.
Burma claims that the boat people are all Bangladeshis and have tried to press their point by showing the world that the passengers on the boats rescued off their coast are Bangladeshis.
Later it emerged that around 150 passengers were whisked away by authorities before the media and the UN arrived on the scene. Some of them were freed later after a huge bribe and threats of death if they spoke to the media.
Meanwhile following intense verification, Bangladesh identified only 150 migrants as their citizens and took them back. Sources say that more Rohingyas will emerge among these migrants. Few Rohingyas want to stay back and face the wrath of the authorities.
BGP has also been forcing local villagers to give food and money for feeding the migrants. These food and money are however not given to migrants.
