Rakhine head teachers in many schools are charging extra from the parents of Rohingya students wishing to enrol.
Rohingya students without Burmese names are also discouraged from enrolling in many schools.
Parents say they are charged anything from 1000 kyats to 10,000 kyats, depending on their ability to pay. While this one time payment might not be a huge financial burden, they say head teachers make a huge extra income.
Some community leaders say the pressure to adopt Burmese names by force is a means of cultural genocide intended to wipe out the Rohingya culture and identity.
Rohingya students face discrimination from school authorities in every institution of Arakan state.
