At least six shops were destroyed by a fire in Naraing Chaung of the Taungbazar area in Buthidaung.
On Tuesday night, shops suddenly went up in flames in the eastern part of the neighbourhood at around 2am. When locals alerted to the fire rushed to put it out, a police team rushed to the area and chased them out. The police shouted to them that they were involved in terror activities and warned them not to approach the fire.
Locals went to the spot in the daytime and found six shops completely destroyed.
There was rain throughout the night and Rohingyas say there is no way that the fire caught accidentally. For a few months, there have been mysterious fires in Maungdaw and Buthidaung that destroys a house in minutes without leaving any trace. However in an earlier fire incident in Taimbru, Maungdaw North during late March, witnesses confirmed that Rakhine men were shooting a canister type object with slingshots.
