Burma Times Desk Report: May 05, 2015
Police have arrested three local officials and a Rohingya trafficker in relation to the gruesome discovery of corpses buried in a jungle of southern Thailand. Thai media have identified the Rohingya man as Zaw Niang Anu (40). Local media say that the police are also looking for other high ranking officials, including an administrative official who seems to be the ringleader. Some policemen in the area have also been transferred to inactive posts for neglecting their duty.
Some Rohingyas are also being sought for their role in facilitating the criminal ring.
It is believed that the victims starved to death, a common occurrence for many refugees taken hostage by traffickers.
