A human trafficker has been arrested in Bangkok, according to refugees based in the Thai capital.
Anwar was arrested on Tuesday. Refugees say that Anwar claimed to be a Rohingya leader but ran a human trafficking ring from Thailand.
Rohingyas en route to Malaysia are ransomed in jungle camps of southern Thailand. They are freed after their families in Burma or Bangladesh can pay the money to the traffickers.
Most Rohingyas who get on the Malaysia boat are tortured and mistreated by traffickers. International rights groups have expressed concern at the deteriorating situation.
