President Thein Sein has indicated he will seek a second term in office, according to Japanese media.
NHK World reported that “Thein Sein indicated that he will seek re-election.”
The remarks were made as the president visited Japan to attend the 7 th Mekong- Japan summit. Thein Sein’s rule has been marked by dramatic improvements in international relations ending decades of international isolation.
Opposition leader Aung Saan Suu Kyi has been barred from the presidency race.
