BGP arrested two people as they guarded their fishing hatchery at night. Another man was arrested and tortured for possessing a Bangladesh SIM card.
On Sunday night, Nobi Hossain and Md Ismail from Naffura, Maungdaw North were guarding their fishing hatchery. At around 11pm, a BGP patrol came to the spot and told them they were up to some mischief and took them to the nearby base. They were then severely beaten up on allegations they were conspiring with terrorists.
They were freed later after the payment of 450,000 kyats.
Earlier in nearby Raimma Bil, police in plain clothes arrested Shomsul Alam on Friday. Shomsul was found in possession of a Bangladesh mobile phone. He was taken to base and severely tortured.
He was released after the payment of 1.3 million kyats on Saturday. He was also made to sign a bond promising never to contact Bangladesh again.
