A mother escaped with her two daughters to Bangladesh after continued harassment by a local man.
Rahima Khatun (48) and her two daughters Rafika Begum (19) and Rozina Akhter (16) crossed over to Bangladesh on Saturday.
Over the last year, the two younger women have been facing continued harassment from Noor Bashar (25), s/o Noor Alam. Bashar is the brother–in-law of the local Chengum and is feared by the populace in that area.
When Rahima went out to work, Bashar would come to their house and make inappropriate advances. Bashar and his henchmen could also be heard prowling around their huts in the night time.
Unable to cope with the harassment, Rahima went to the local Aishwaramu for justice. This however angered the young man and he threatened the family with dire consequences. The Aishwaramu in the meantime refused to acknowledge the situation.
Fearing the worst, the three women left the area and crossed over to Bangladesh.
