Abdu Monaf, the main accused in the murder of a policeman last year was brought to Kiladong (Du Char Yar Taan) on Tuesday, according to our local correspondent.
Around 80 policemen and BGP personnel accompanied Monaf as he was brought to Kiladong from prison at around 10 am.
Here Monaf pointed out the spot where he supposedly killed the policeman. His confession was videotaped.
Monaf along with three others were inhumanely tortured following their arrest on January 18. By the end of the month it seemed Monaf would die in custody. Scores of Muslims have died in custody since 2012 following torture by police.
Monaf’s appearance in public has confirmed that the prisoner feared dead due to torture has managed to live on despite the brutal treatment meted down to him.
This is the second time that Monaf has been brought to Kiladong to confess to the cop killing. Others have made similar confessions under torture. In early February, another prisoner Md Ayoju was made to stand over a policeman with red paint in his face to make it look like he had just killed a policeman.
On the night of January 15, 2014, scores of Rohingya Muslims mainly women and children were killed by a Rakhine mob backed by security forces. The government however refuses to acknowledge that such a massacre had taken place and instead blames villagers for killing a policeman.
