Police forced a man in Amla fara of Akyab to pay 3 million kyats.
Noor Alam (35) s/o Noor Salam had a long business partnership with a Rakhine friend Aung U. The two were neighbours since childhood before the riots of 2012 separated them and forced the Rohingya Muslim man in the IDP camp.
They came up with a business plan where Aung supplied Noor with groceries from the town that the latter sold in the IDP camp.
In the past few weeks, other Rakhines have been convincing Maung of an easy way to make money. On Tuesday, Maung told the police that Noor owed him 3 million kyats that he was refusing to pay back.
The police then went to the IDP camp and forced Noor to pay them 3 million kyats.
The incident has left Noor bankrupt.
