A notorious human trafficking agent is threatening to kill 55 hostages if the families fail to make payment as soon as possible.
Sadek originally from Kyauktaw has been running the human trafficking operation for many years along with three associates – – Idris, Hamid and Zubair.
Four girls en route to Malaysia to be reunited with their families were forcibly married by Sadek.
Now his associate Hamid is calling the families of victims based in Bangladesh and making them hear their tortured voices on phone. During the conversation, the prisoners are assaulted and made to cry for their families to hear. This is a common policy of human traffickers to coax their families out of money.
It seems that the hostages are on sea rather than land. Many traffickers have improvised their ships to hold hostages for a long time rather than risk going to land in Thailand where security forces are conducting a crackdown against them.
