Two brothers running a sprawling business of human trafficking have killed many innocent Rohingyas, according to families of human trafficking victims.
Shobullah and Juboullah run the business with the former based in Thailand and the latter in Akyab.
Rohingyas who delay their ransom are killed to strike fear in other migrants.
The two brothers are only one gang among many operating out of the IDP camps in the state capital. Human trafficking syndicates are protected by the BGP who often push Rohingyas into the sea where the traffickers lie in wait for them.
Living conditions in the IDP camps of Akyab have been described by rights groups as one of the worst in the world. There is a lack of everything starting from water and sanitation to living and food. The situation is made worse by the refusal of security forces to allow Rohingyas out of their designated areas. This means that Rohingyas cannot work and thus live in near starvation circumstances.
The setting is altogether perfect for human traffickers to operate.
