Police raided a house in Lamal para on Thursday on allegations of drug trafficking.
Around dawn, a huge convoy of ten motorbikes and a bus full of police officials went into the neighbourhood. Two leading tabbes of the region also accompanied the police.
The group went into the house of Hafezur Rahman and turned the place upside down. Hafezur had gone to the mosque for fajr prayers. When he heard about the raid, he went into hiding from the mosque.
In the absence of the man, police arrested his wife Moyura Begum alleging she was using a Bangladesh SIM card. When a neighbour Md Ayub came to enquire about the situation, police beat him up and arrested him too.
The two have been taken to the Maungdaw police station.
