Two men arrested from Dunchi para in Rathedaung are facing merciless torture in police custody.
Two Maulavis, Solim Ullah (30) and Md Zubair (25) were arrested on June 26 and have been subjected to continuous torture since then.
Police allege they are human traffickers. Local sources say they were conscious citizens who struggled for justice and human rights of their fellow villagers.
Earlier, there were reports that the government had prepared a list of all activists and social workers throughout Arakan and planned to prosecute them as human traffickers. See http://burmatimes.net/government-preparing-list-of-activists-plans-to-arrest-them-as-traffickers/
The two men who were vocal for Rohingya rights are likely to have fallen in this government trap. Actual human traffickers are remain under government protection.
Since 2012, thousands of Rohingya Muslims have been tortured in custody. There have been hundreds of deaths from torture in custody.
