Two men have been arrested and tortured by military after they were implicated with Bangladesh SIM cards in Maungdaw township.
On Thursday evening, the two men Ayub and Anwar were returning to their home in Sommoinna on a motor bike when the military intercepted them at Hala Banga bazar. They were ordered to accompany the soldiers into a nearby military centre.
After fifteen minutes, the military official in charge claimed there were three Bangladesh SIM cards in the motor bike. The two men were accused of communicating with Bangladesh based terrorists.
Ayub and Anwar were then tortured throughout the night.
The next morning they were freed after the payment of a million kyats.
Another unidentified man was also fined 300, 000 kyats the same evening in the area for the alleged possession of a Bangladesh phone.
