Two Rohingya woodcutters are in a critical condition after being assaulted by Natala men in Rathedaung.
On Monday afternoon, Mahmud Ilias (45) and Md Jalil (34) from Firing Dong were going to Kiang Dong with their consignment of wood when miscreants from the Natala village attacked them.
They were then kept hostage till other Rohingyas came and rescued them on payment of 200,000 kyats.
According to the victims, they sell wood to a Rakhine man named Fu Maasi who paid them fair prices. But men from the Natal settlements were pressurising them to do business with them instead. They refused because the prices offered by the Natala men were lower than those offered by the Rakhine businessman.
This angered the Natala and they took their revenge accordingly.
