An UNHCR team visited the refugee camps of Nayapara and Leda on Wednesday.
During the visit, the UNHCR team wanted to know the overall situation including food, security and human rights of Rohingya refugees in the two camps.
The visit comes amid a humanitarian disaster in the Leda unregistered camp where the government has halted operations of NGOs.
Refugees in Leda are deprived of basic necessities including water and healthcare. Many children have died due to water borne diseases and absence of healthcare in these circumstances.
Many women have also been sexually abused as they went to collect water from nearby areas.
Refugees in Leda said they hoped that the UNHCR will try to negotiate with the government of Bangladesh after witnessing first hand their desperate ordeal.
