A Rakhine village administrator and his henchmen have seized relief given to flood affected Rohingyas in Danumiya para of Buthidaung.
Last Sunday, Rohingyas in the area got sacks of rice and tents from humanitarian agencies. The flood and cyclone has hit this Rohingya village especially hard causing three deaths, and destroying 48 of the 80 houses in the area.
In the absence of food and shelter, international organisations turned up and aided the Rohingyas.
But this did not please the Rakhines and one of their community leaders and his henchmen raided the Rohingya neighbourhood by night carrying away most of the rice and the tents. Altogether the miscreants took 15 sacks of rice and 35 tents.
While some aid has reached the Rakhine community, aid to Rohingyas have been scarce. In many instances where Rohingyas have gotten aid, administration or security forces have seized them and distributed it among the Rakhine populace.
