A woman has been arrested after BGP failed to locate her husband in Anak Parang, Rathedaung.
On Tuesday, BGP raided the house of Hamid Hossain on charges he was doing illegal business with Bangladesh. Hamid had however fled the area in advance.
On Wednesday, the BGP once again went to Anak Parang and once again Hamid was not found. Furious, the BGP proceeded to beat up his wife in full view of the public.
The woman was later taken to prison. Since then, no one has been allowed to get in touch with her leading to fears she has been tortured.
The arrest and torture of family members of wanted Muslims is an increasingly common phenomenon in Arakan.
