A woman has ‘disappeared’ in police custody creating fears that something bad has happened to her.
The whereabouts of Rahima Khatun (27), d/o Md Salim are currently unknown after she was arrested on Thursday.
Rahima had previously left Burma after a eloping with a man and crossed over to Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, her husband later died, leaving her with two infant children.
Faced with a dismal future, she asked her father to take her back. Salim conferred with a local representative and paid him 200,000 kyats on which he was assured that she would face no difficulties if she registered in the census.
However on Thursday, another local representative Rahim Ullah pointed her to the police as being a recent arrival from Bangladesh. She was later arrested and taken to a police camp at Kiang Dong ghat.
But since then, her relatives have no information on her whereabouts.
